53rd Houston International Festival is a go, despite COVID-19, the WUHAN VIRUS!
Dear Friends,
As we put the finishing touches on our exciting 53rd Houston International Festival program, we want to reach out to inform you of the steps we are taking in light of the evolving status of COVID-19. HIFF staff continue to monitor on a daily basis the developments and latest guidelines provided by local, national, and international authorities and at this time we are confident and comfortable in moving forward with the Festival, which will run April 17–26.
We remain committed to making the best decisions possible for the health and well-being of our attendees and will continue to take proactive measures to ensure public health during our Festival. We are in communication with the Houston & Texas Department of Public Health to follow recommended procedures as we proceed with Festival planning and are taking additional precautionary measures, including but not limited to increased health-related messaging, on-site sanitation resources for patrons, and fortified cleaning protocols at all venues.
Per the advice of health experts, we encourage everyone in our community to take protective measures which include regular hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home if you are ill. For more resources and information on the local implications of COVID-19 and preventing the spread of the novel coronavirus we recommend visiting the Texas Public Health and the World Health Organization website.
Thank you for being a part of our HIFF community and we look forward to seeing you at the Festival! Look out for an email soon to announce our Opening Night and mark your calendar for March 30 when the full program will be released. Should circumstances change, we will be in touch. If you have any immediate questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to email attend@worldfest.org
Best wishes,
The HIFF Team
COVID-19 update: The 53rd edition of WorldFest Houston will be postponed
Don't worry, friends... as long as humans have been around there has been a need for story telling. The show will go on and we will be back with more "good stories, well told."
Now, y'all stay safe, ya hear!
Dear film creators and lovers,
Friends, we really didn't want it to come to this. We kept quietly pressing on, putting the finishing touches on our program, watching amazing films and assembling the best 53rd WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival that we could. But, Houston is asking us to protect our community and, so, we must cancel the events on April 17 - 26, 2020.
As we say in this biz, "the show must go on!" And it will go on, but not exactly as we had planned. We hope to reschedule WorldFest-Houston 53 later in the Summer!
There are so many unknowns, but we do know that our juries still want to share these incredible projects with the world and we will continue our mission to validate cinematic excellence.
We are working with our juries to complete their screenings in the next two weeks and we will announce and inform all Remi Winners! We will know more about what we will do about the Premiere Film Screenings as the future reveals itself over the next few weeks.
We do pledge to keep you informed and we pledge to keep doing our part to promote the creators of independent film, our amazing city of Houston and the diverse cultures of the world.
If you have questions, please reach out to us. We will have more answers soon! We hope to provide screening opportunities to our selected filmmakers when normalcy has returned.
Thank you for your support! And thank you for sharing your passion with us - remember that in times of chaos, sharing good stories is an elixir of life.
We will return with more "good stories, well told" from around the world!
With hope,
Team WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival

Dennehy won two Tony Awards, an Olivier Award, and a Golden Globe, and received six Primetime Emmy Award nominations. He had roles in over 180 films and in many television and stage productions. The 54th WorldFest-Houston in just 22 days! Happy Easter Holiday from the team
We wanted to give you a progress report on WorldFest 54! We are running slightly behind due to the Covid19 pandemic!
We hope to complete all jury sessions in the next ten days!
Because of Covid19 restrictions, we have had to cut back the 54th WorldFest-Houston to just 3 1/2 days, but we are premiering 39 new Feature films and around 90 Intl shorts. Remarkably, actual entry totals were UP this year, despite Covid19! This did mean a greater burden on our Intl Juries, however. The USA was first in total entries, then - surprisingly, China was second and then Canadian entries! A total of 76 nations entered! The most in our 54-year history!
We will not be able to have our traditional Remi Awards Dinner due to the Covid19 restrictions. Our Cinemark Theatre is also following Covid19 restrictions, limiting seating to 50%, which means some films can only have 50 viewers! We do have very special rates at our HQ Westin Hotel, near the Cinemark Theatre. We will be sending all filmmakers selected for screening the special hotel discount code! We will announce all Remi Winners on April 22nd, online and in a jpeg file! We will then begin sending all Remi Winners their Remi Awards! Of course, you may order Duplicate Awards for your associates on our website!

VIDEO Happy Days in Houston, ambiance at Worldfest Houston
The fantastic team behind each Worldfest Houston festival for quite some time! Hunter Todd founded the festival in 1961 and has run each of the 53 editions so far, that makes him the only festival organizer in the world with such a vast experience in running festivals.
Behind each great man you will always find a great woman: here both Kathleen and Katy Lea have proven essential to the success of the festival.
Check our ambiance video : this is what the festival looks like (FUN) when ther is no pandemic around: sheer celebration of indie talent.
This year the festival will run April 16-25, 2021 ina tighter mode, without the traditionnal 5 course gala diner.
